Singing, drumming, dancing and virtuoso performances on a range of African instruments all contributed to the outstanding concert given this week by the Pearl of Africa Choir. They delighted the audience with their energy, joy and talents, also providing the opportunity to purchase some art and craft work; with all monies raised supporting the work of the Pearl of Africa charity, who provide education and health care to over 2,000 children in Uganda. Our students enjoyed a series of dance and music workshops during the afternoon, which supported them taking part in the concert to showcase what they had learnt. The Choir had also spent the morning at Ormskirk C of E Primary School and it was wonderful to welcome their KS2 choir to the concert in the evening and enjoy their performance. Thank you to all who attended and gave their support.
Another enriching opportunity commenced today with 40 of our students off to Malaga; providing them with the chance to experience the culture and language of Spain. We wish them all a safe and enjoyable trip. Esperamos que todos tengan una gran semana.
On Thursday we were delighted to welcome interested visitors to our Sixth Form College Open Evening. Staff and students were able to share perspectives on the life and work of the College, highlighting some of the unique elements that contribute to the post-16 experience we are proud to offer. We have a wide range of curriculum provision, committed pastoral care and support, effective programmes to support progression, wonderful enrichment opportunities and in 2017 achieved our best ever set of results. Most importantly, we have a talented and committed student body who each day make us very proud; we hope that Year 11s choose to join us and through their College shape their future.
As a school we place a great deal of importance and value on the partnership we have with parents and carers. Please do take the opportunity to complete this term’s Parent Survey if you have not yet done so. We welcome the feedback and it does support our efforts to continually improve the school. All are also warmly invited to the Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Ormskirk School (FOOS), which takes place on Monday November 6th at 7.30pm in the Forum Building. FOOS are also running the Frog Hop event on Friday November 10th, get your tickets now.
It has been a great last week of the half-term. I have been able to award commendations and medals, see some outstanding art work, meet with the senior students, and see the ongoing development of Project Sixth Form. I have particularly enjoyed observing lessons in Year 12 Economics and Year 11 Chemistry.
I am very proud of the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment of all at the school. I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable half-term break and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday November 6th.
I conclude this week’s Blog with a wonderful Luganda proverb, in honour of our Pearl of Africa visitors:
“Akatono, kekazzza omukwaano" - A small gift strengthens a friendship.
