The inspirational Sarah Williams was the guest of honour at the Ormskirk School Sports Award Evening on Thursday, giving a motivational speech on the importance of mental resilience and self-belief. Sarah founded ‘Tough Girl Challenges’ and regularly interviews exceptional role models via her podcast https://www.toughgirlchallenges.com/ Her personal stories of completing firstly the famous ‘Marathon des Sables’ (six marathons in six days across the desert) and secondly the 2190 mile long Appalachian Trail in an incredible 100 days, were testimony to her ‘walking the walk’ about mental resilience. The evening was a wonderful celebration of the sporting successes of our students, hosted by our Lancashire Sports Award winning PE team. From across the school, ‘teams of the year’, ‘individual performers of the year’, ‘sports representatives and sports leaders’ and those who have made outstanding contributions to school sport were all Award recipients. Thank you to all who attended and made the evening a special one. Thank you too to the local businesses who sponsored the event: Currency Matters, Palace Chemicals, Ambient Lighting, Mrs Tandy Kennedy and Ascent Trampoline Park. Please remember that you can keep up-to-date with all of our sporting successes via Twitter @ormskirkpe and Instagram @ormskirkschoolpe
In celebration of our Languages Week this week, our wonderful MFL team: led assemblies, provided activities, had Salsa dancing classes and had a Spanish theatre production take to the stage. Across the world there are numerous days/weeks assigned to recognising and celebrating languages and one of my favourite themes this year has been: “a different language is a different vision of life”. In our complex and fast-paced world perhaps it has never been more important to be truly able to communicate and empathise with people around the global community.
Another important element of modern communication is the vital element of online safety and being able to make safe, informed choices. The powerful production ‘Chelsea’s Choice’ was performed in school this week, reinforcing important messages on: internet safety, healthy relationships and the dangers of exploitation.
Warm invitations are extended to all for the upcoming Young Musicians Concert, taking place on May 15th at 6.30pm and the Friends of Ormskirk School Quiz, taking place on June 8th.
Formal examinations commence from Monday and all of our Y11 and Y13 students are wished the very best of luck. Everyone across the school community is behind them and rooting for their success. In this spirit I conclude the Blog with the words of Thomas Edison: “If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves."
