Headteacher's Blog

A very warm welcome to all at the start of a new academic year. We are celebrating some wonderful successes over the summer, including: record A Level results, significant increases in our English and Maths results (rises of 6% at Level 4 and 9% at Level 5) and our overall ‘Attainment 8’ score, meaning we are now achieving well above national averages. There were some truly outstanding individual successes within these results and all at the school are incredibly proud of the students and wish them every future happiness and success.

Over the summer, the fantastic SHINE team took part in a summer school that concluded with a festival – ShineFest – and it was a pleasure to read some of the evaluation comments and feedback from friends and family. Mrs Coggins is extremely proud of this amazing team and under her leadership they continue to innovate, create and excel.

The new term has started well, with the students arriving with enthusiasm and positivity. Standards of uniform and equipment are high and I would like to thank all parents/carers for their support in this regard as it does it mean that our students present themselves as ready to learn, proud of their school. I hope that the video, made by one of our great students, Scott, which we are currently hosting on our website, gives you a flavour of the joy that exists in our learning community.

Throughout the school we are promoting positivity, with approaches such as: warm welcome, positive praise, calm corridors and clear visible routines at the start and end of lessons. Students are being recognised for going ‘over and above’ and can be recorded on recognition boards and receive phone calls and postcards home.

Digital World issue 2 has now been emailed to you and is available on the school website. This issue focuses on Social Media, such an important tool in our lives today and increasingly for professional as well as social means. This issue looks at how social media can be a positive tool in our lives, as well as the risks that young people may be exposed to when using social media. We also offer some advice on how we can use social media responsibly, with possible suggestions as to how we can keep our young people safe when accessing and contributing to social media content. As ever, if you feel there is a specific issue that you would like Digital World to focus on then please email Mrs Blackhurst: This email address is being protected from spambots. As this new year gets underway I conclude the Blog with the words of Socrates: “Wisdom begins in wonder”.

Best wishes

Mr Kerridge.
