From Macbeth to Masterchef, Shine to skiing, our fantastic new edition of Ozone magazine is now on the website. I commend it to you and hope that you will feel it is a vibrant and positive focus on the life of the school over the last academic year. I am really grateful to all of the staff and students who have contributed.
An early closure reminder to all parents/carers that the School Open Evening takes place on Thursday 27th September and pupils will leave school at 12.40pm. Buses will run at this time. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all prospective parents to the Open Evening.
The partnership we have with parents/carers is much valued at Ormskirk School and we were delighted this week to welcome so many to the Key Stage 3 and 4 Parent Information Evenings. We have a further event for Year 12 next week. It was an opportunity for senior staff to share important information about: the school, our values, approaches and systems. Thank you to all who attended.
This week has been as action-packed as ever it is in a busy school. I have particularly enjoyed watching some of the rehearsals for the school production, seeing the field filled with students undertaking some of our excellent sporting clubs and activities, and participating in a Year 11 debate on the importance of authority and rules in society. That the term has started positively is well evidenced by the fact that I have already been able to award 14 commendations and 6 medals.
Our Twitter feed this week has celebrated some of our amazing musicians and artists. As a school we are fully committed to the vital role ‘creative arts’ subjects play in education and we are fortunate indeed to have such outstanding department teams, facilities and opportunities in these areas.
We have had some enquiries about examination performance in 2018 and I would guide you to the fact that we publish the exam data on our website. Please do contact the school if you have any questions in relation to this key aspect of the school’s performance.
As I advised in my start of term letter, I am leaving post at the end of term. The Headship has been nationally advertised today and the Governing Body and Local Authority have undertaken some excellent work already in the process of recruiting a new Headteacher. The appointed colleague will be privileged, as I have been, to lead this wonderful school and I know will be warmly welcomed into the community of the school.
I conclude this week’s Blog with the words of Walt Disney: “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”
