Headteacher's Blog

After launching our new approach this term to: simplifying rules, doing the right thing and recognising those going over and above, we are delighted to be able to present our information to parents and carers via the Culture and Ethos link on the website. You will see the focus on respect and restoration and the types of celebratory events that students will be attending. This week Year 7s had their hot chocolate celebration and enjoyed the praise that they deserved through this recognition. Some parents had raised concerns that there was now ‘no discipline system’ but I hope the guidance reassures you that this is not the case; indeed, expectations are higher than ever, and: restoration meetings, Period 6 sessions and a clear focus on stepped interventions, ensure that students appreciate there are consequences to their choices and actions.

It was a pleasure to welcome so many parents and students to our Open Evening on Thursday. Our students and staff enjoyed being able to share our school and demonstrate why we are proud to be part of its inspiring community. We were delighted with the feedback and as Head I was especially proud of the numerous comments of praise for the students who engaged with the visitors with confidence, enthusiasm and grace.

The school was privileged to have a visit this week from Helen Hayes MP. Helen has a special connection to the school as a former Head Girl. A group of students from across the school were able to meet and question Helen on key issues of the day, enjoying the opportunity. We offer our thanks to Helen for giving of her valuable time in this way.

All of our students shone on Tuesday, as the annual school photos were completed; it may have been something to do with the giant flashlights in use. As we always do, we ask for the continued support of parents in ensuring that our young people retain the high standard of uniform that does more than make them look smart, it radiates their pride in being part of the school community. Thank you for your ongoing support in this regard.

We are only two weeks away from ‘Grimm Woods,’ our school production that was ‘trailed’ during the Open Evening. Tickets will be much sought after so please do keep an eye out for sales details.

In the spirit of our core value of respect, I conclude this week’s Blog with the words of Laurence Sterne: “Respect for ourselves guides our morals, respect for others guides our manners.”

Best wishes

Mr Kerridge.
