Our school continues to strive to have ICE teaching and learning each day: inspiring, challenging and engaging. One of the highlights of the week for me was visiting a Y9 History lesson where the students were examining World War One artefacts on loan to the school from the Imperial War Museum Manchester. It was fascinating to see the way that the students analysed the artefacts they had been presented with and reflected on their purpose and usage; really bringing History to life.
Wednesday October 10th is World Mental Health Day. Under the leadership of our superb SHINE team we are promoting the vital and valuable themes of the day. On the day, staff and students are encouraged to wear one item of yellow to promote the day. The SHINE team are creating two yellow sunflower umbrellas to exhibit for a few days at the school entrance and are making items to sell on the day to staff and students including well-being postcards which they are having professionally printed. Students will be selling these at break and lunch times on the actual day. They have also put together a well-being hamper with the support of students and parents and are running a well-being raffle, tickets for this are now on sale with some great prizes from local businesses. Money is being raised to support the work of Counselling Bereavement Services in Ormskirk.
Another important part of health and well-being is our young people having a clear understanding of healthy relationships. Our Year 10s have been taking part in workshops on this theme this week, which have been led by the Liberty Centre.
Tickets are selling fast for our School Production, ‘Grimm Woods’. I am always so impressed by the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment of the students and staff who work together to create such exceptional performances. Primary school pupils will be attending a matinee performance being put on especially for them and the production will preview in a student night performance and then run through until Saturday evening. We hope to see many parents/carers in attendance and extend a warm invitation to you all to come and join the adventure in the Grimm Woods.
In support of World Mental Health Day, I conclude the Blog this week with the words of Vikram Patel: “There is no health without mental health and mental health is everyone’s business.”
