Headteacher's Blog

The school’s third edition of Digital World has been shared this week. If focuses on the advantages and risks associated with the use of GPS, linked to apps such as Boomerang, Footprints and Family Time. My thanks to Mrs Blackhurst and her team for their leadership in this important area.

It was enjoyable to be able to see some of our sports stars in action this week, whether in external fixtures or as part of College Sports. Our basketball team were particularly impressive on Tuesday, demonstrating technical skill and an excellent team ethic.

Our first ‘Respect Week’ of the year was a positive focus on uniform. Students were welcomed to school each morning by teams of staff who shared tickets for a daily prize draw with students in full and correct uniform. It was pleasing to see the vast majority in full uniform each day and that over the week the small number of students who had to be addressed made clear improvements. Our next Respect Week focus will be on ‘being ready to learn’, setting out the importance of punctuality to lessons and respectful behaviour on corridors.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended the first Year 11 Parents’ Evening of the year on Thursday. This is obviously a crucial year for these students who have their PPE (Mock) exams in January, straight after the Christmas break. There will be a further Year 11 Parents’ Evening on 7th February. As set out on the website and via letter, Year 9 Parents’ Evening will be on Thursday December 6th and Year 10 Parents’ Evening will be on Thursday December 13th.

The music department have advertised their upcoming concerts, Winter Warmers on December 12th at school and the Carol Service on December 18th at Ormskirk Parish Church, all are very warmly welcome.

In some of the superb art work I have seen this week and a fantastic new display being created in the Respect Centre, based on Narnia, I have been so impressed by the inspirational imagination of our students and it leads me to conclude this week’s Blog with the words of John Muir: “The power of imagination makes us infinite.”

Best wishes

Mr Kerridge.
