Headteacher's Blog

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,

Thank you for all your emails in support of the school over the past few days.  It is greatly appreciated and please be confident that the whole school community will work tirelessly over the coming months to return Ormskirk School back to its rightful position.  We are working with a number of external partners to ensure swift progress is made.

I have enjoyed every minute of my first term at Ormskirk School and look forward to accelerating improvements next academic year.

What a wonderful final week it has been. School has been calm and orderly and the Summer Festival was a fantastic advertisement for the “Ormskirk School Family” – simply wonderful.  When young people say “Can we do this again next year, rather than go to Alton Towers….” you know you are winning!

The pictures from the Ecuador trip look fantastic and what wonderful sporting achievements over the final week.  The fantastic performance of the U15s cricket team win against Thornleigh in the Lancashire Schools Cricket Association Plate competition – was a great win and a great achievement.

Sports Day was another wonderful occasion.  It was great to see so many young people taking part.  What a wonderful atmosphere.

The Year 10 mock interviews were superb – feedback from all our guests was so positive about our young people.

September 2019

Our return to school in September is vital for setting the standards for the year.  Our uniform policy is on our website and the vast majority of young people wear our uniform properly and with great pride.  We have spoken to and made it very clear to young people that trainers are not appropriate footwear and we have given this last term as a period of grace to sort school shoes for September.  Please ensure that you daughter / son returns to school in September wearing the full correct uniform – including appropriate school shoes.  Thank you in anticipation of your support with this.  Uniform is one of the basics and sets the tone.

Everyday Equipment

I would also like to take this opportunity to make you aware of the following additions that we would like pupils to bring into school as part of their everyday equipment:

A green biro (this is used for peer/ self-assessment and when pupils make improvements to their work)

A glue stick (in order to promote high standards in presentation pupils will need glue to stick worksheets into their books)

A whiteboard pen (teachers use ‘mini whiteboards’ in lessons for a variety of reasons e.g. for pupils to develop their own answers in draft, to check pupil understanding etc.)
