Dear Parents, carers and guardians,
Can I start by thanking you for all the support you have given to school over the first half term of the new academic year. What a half term it has been! On 99% of all measures we have massively improved on the same half term in 2018. Attendance is up across virtually all measures – and up significantly and well above the national average now. Persistent Absence is down by almost 5% and now well below the national average. Exclusions have drastically reduced across all measures. It has been a wonderful way to start the year.
We have had several external reviews of different areas in the school and we have a clear direction of travel now to continue to make Ormskirk School a good school again. One of the external reviewers who knows the school well stated that there had been a “massive improvement and a big change in culture” at our school. None of this would have occurred without the support of our community – and your support is greatly appreciated and vital to make the necessary improvements.
There is much more to do in the coming months and I thank you in advance for your continued support.
Our young people look amazingly smart in their uniform and wear it with pride. We still have a very small minority in black branded trainers (mainly Nike ones). The young people concerned have been spoken to and I would ask for parents', carers' and guardians' support in making sure this is rectified over the half term break.
Our 6th Form Open Evening was really well attended and feedback from the young people and their parents, carers and guardians was extremely positive. With over half of last year’s Year 11 choosing to stay in our 6th Form (and thoroughly enjoying it), we are anticipating places will be sought after for September 2020.
I know our young people (and staff) visiting Andalucía over the half term, on the school trip, will have a wonderful time and it was great to see how excited they were when they departed from school – I know the weather will be sunnier and warmer than our weather over half term!
Thank you for your continued support.
