The school nurse role is to promote and protect the health and well-being of children, young people and families.

Each school has a named school nurse who works both in and out of school to provide support around:

  • Keeping healthy
  • Immunisations
  • Emotional health
  • Weight management
  • Sexual health
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Long term health conditions 

In high schools, the school health team offer

  • A confidential drop-in session where young people may access individual advice and support
  • To work in partnership with parents, carers, young people and school staff to formulate plans of care for children with significant identified health needs that may impact on their social and educational achievement.

The immunisation team will offer

  • Routine immunisation against human papilloma virus (HPV) for year 8 girls and diphtheria, tetanus & polio for all year 10 pupils.
