Subject Overview
Sociology is the study of society and of people and their behaviour. In this two year course we cover a wide range of topics and apply sociological theories to explain human behaviour and the workings of society. In lessons students will apply their knowledge of key theories to current affairs and their own experiences, to illustrate their understanding and develop skills in analysis and evaluation. Lessons involve a variety of teaching methods but all demand active student engagement and participation.
Key Stage 5
Sociology explores your interest in understanding how the world around you works, exercises critical thinking and explores ideas from different viewpoints. Sociology students should be prepared to think about and discuss what can sometimes be sensitive and disturbing topics. You will look at families and households including the relationship of the family to social structure, education and sociological methods, beliefs in society & ideology, and crime & deviance.
